The best of all worlds.
What can You Look Forward to in 2022-2023?
We are thrilled to share that we have identified new offerings, initiatives, and improvements to strengthen our school’s academic and extra-curricular offerings, building upon the strong educational foundation laid at this school over the past years.
During the Academic Year 2022-2023, we will be rolling out many school enhancements, including:

Sustainability Committee

International
Baccalaureate (IB) World School
A Sustainability Committee has been established at XWA to support the school in addressing the ‘Five C’s of school sustainability’ – Campus, Curriculum, Community, Culture and Communication. The key objectives of impact and action will form the basis for sustainability initiatives and involve important stakeholders – students, parents, teachers, support staff and administrators.
The Sustainability Committee will drive the development of the school’s first Sustainability Plan, ensuring that the following specific areas are addressed and considered:
- Aspiration to become a ‘green flag’ school under the Eco-Schools programme within 3-5 years;
- Measuring and managing the school’s carbon footprint;
- Supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);
- Responsible procurement;
- Student-led environmental initiatives linked to the curriculum;
- Participation in the Singapore ‘green schools’ initiatives;
- Awareness campaigns.

Dedicated Innovation Hub

Dedicated Innovation Hub
XWA is excited to announce the launch of the new Innovation Hub. The Innovation Hub is a state-of-the-art multi-level building purpose-designed to enhance the learning environment with the latest in technology and specialised labs for our students.
Designed to be environmentally friendly and with sustainability at the forefront of design, the Innovation Hub will include clean air filtration in all learning spaces and be home to a hi-tech digital media arts lab, an IB Diploma student lounge, specialist labs, fabrication and design thinking labs, and a multi-use Esports arena, the first-of-its-kind in an international school.
A new focal point will be a Central Square featuring a relaxing courtyard area to facilitate interaction and community building.

General Campus Enhancements

Home Language Programme

Home Language Programme
At XWA, we believe that a diverse and inclusive language programme is essential to the success of all learners. As an IB continuum school, we value the wide variety of home languages represented in our cohort, the ongoing development of the English language and the opportunity to help our students learn new languages.
Our new Home Language Programme aims to support our students in maintaining and further developing their linguistic skills and providing them with an opportunity to stay connected with their culture and heritage. We offer Home Language Programme using two approaches:
- After-school Programme. We offer Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, French and Spanish classes for students from KG2 to Grade 5.
- Within the school day Programme. For the Academic Year 2023-2024, we will introduce a Chinese Home Language Programme in addition to the Japanese Home Language Programme, which was introduced last academic year. Both languages will be offered within the normal timetabled day.

Early & Primary Years Chinese (Mandarin) – English Bilingual Programme

Early & Primary Years English – Chinese (Mandarin) Bilingual Programme
We offer a unique English – Chinese (Mandarin) Bilingual Programme for Pre-K, KG1, KG2 and Grade 1 students. Over time, we plan to offer this programme to more grade levels, starting with Grade 2 in August 2023.
This offering is designed to allow native and non-native Mandarin speakers to have a rigorous introduction to Mandarin during their foundation years and provides students with the opportunity to acquire the skills for speaking, reading, writing, listening and communicating in English and Mandarin.
During the Academic Year 2022-2023, a full review of the Bilingual Programme will be conducted, to ensure that we offer the best learning environment for our students.

University and Career Guidance Programme Enhancement

University and Career Guidance Programme Enhancement
We offer a bespoke University & Career Guidance Programme to students from Grade 8 and above. A team of highly experienced counsellors has been brought in to help students explore their interests, talents and passions to support them in making informed decisions about the educational and career pathways that fit with their specific academic, personal and career aspirations. We prioritise individual attention to all of our students, recognising that each student and family will have different needs, understandings and choices post-high school.
Parent information evenings are held during the year, to help parents understand the university and college application process, and help them guide their children to make the best possible decisions for their future aspirations.

Frontier Technologies

Frontier Technologies
With an aspirational goal to become Singapore’s ‘School of the Future’ we feel it is important to provide access to the most advanced technologies, software and methodologies. Supporting the ‘ABCD Framework’ (AI, Blockchain, Cloud, Data), the school is currently exploring the ways how to incorporate ‘frontier technologies’ like metaverse development, financial literacy, cryptos, coding, robotics, mixed and extended reality into our learning experiences to enhance ways our students think, learn and live in our modern world.

New Esports Programme – the first-of-its-kind among international schools in Singapore

New Esports Programme – the first-of-its-kind among international schools in Singapore
In preparation for the new Esports Arena coming ‘online’ in August 2023, XWA has introduced a first-of-its-kind Esports Programme that will allow our students to explore Esports for recreation and vocation and develop critical skills such as leadership, teamwork and discipline. We are in advanced talks with leaders in the Esports industry to help support and drive this programme.

English as an Additional Language (EAL) Programme Enhancement

English as an Additional Language (EAL) Programme Enhancement
For students whose first language is not English, we have recently enhanced our EAL Programme to make it even more robust, comprehensive and personalised. The enhanced EAL offering ensures all children have the necessary English language skills to fully access the curriculum and programmes available.
The school is also currently developing a new EAL Foundation Programme to help accelerate English language learning for beginners, and to ensure we get the right balance between native and EAL students within our typical mainstream classes.

MYP eAssessment

MYP eAssessments
The MYP eAssessment allows students completing the Middle Years Programme to demonstrate key skills and be awarded the IB MYP Certificate. The MYP eAssessment is purposefully designed to reflect the flexible curriculum framework in the MYP. It is an equivalent alternative to other types of examinations for Grade 10 students that pushes students well beyond the rote memorisation of subject-specific content and lays a solid foundation for the rigorous IB Diploma. Improving how we monitor our students’ educational progress helps them prepare for crucial milestones.

Premier Educational Partnership Programme

Visiting Authors Programme

Visiting Authors Programme
Our school will be host to the XCL Visiting Author’s Programme. We are delighted to have Tom Wright, a Pulitzer Prize finalist and New York Times best-selling author as our first Visiting Author. The Programme offers opportunities for learning development and career exploration for our students, parents and community.
