A Teacher’s Journey at
XCL World Academy

“This is my sixth year at XCL World Academy (XWA). I’ve been part of the international teaching community for 20 years, having taught young learners as a homeroom teacher and an English as an Additional Language (EAL) specialist across International Baccalaureate (IB) schools in China and Southeast Asia.

Teaching curious young learners is something that brings me great joy. A child’s curiosity about the world is innate, and I believe that the love of learning happens when curiosity is sparked.

In my classroom, everyone is given a platform to build on their curiosity and foster a love of learning, alongside developing lifelong skills to empower them to reach their full potential.

I also feel fortunate to be part of a supportive and collaborative teaching community that’s driven by our shared mission to empower an inclusive international community of happy learners who aspire to positively impact others.

The most joyful moments for me are when I receive personalised notes from my students.

These notes are like precious feedback cards; authentic, unfiltered and heartfelt. I have collected many of them over the years and keep them in a special box as a reminder of how they have made me a better educator.” – Yashna Harilela, Early & Primary Years Language Coach
